Fry Foundation Grantee National Museum of Mexican Art Awarded $3.5 Million in Support in New Grant Initiative
The Ford Foundation provided Fry Foundation grantee The National Museum of Mexican Art with a $3.5 million grant in September as part of a broader effort to help culturally diverse institutions survive coronavirus. In September, sixteen major donors and foundations announced an unprecedented commitment of $160 million to a two-pronged national and regional initiative, America’s Cultural Treasures. It will award grants ranging from $1 million to $6 million to support Black, Latinx, Asian, and Indigenous arts organizations in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has devastated America’s arts and culture organizations across the country. The national component of the initiative has provided $81 million in operational and general support funds to an initial cohort of 20 organizations. A second wave is meant to be regional, with Ford offering $35 million to partners in seven regions: Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
